Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

Does the application require a proof of English language skills (IELTS, TOEFL, etc) for candidates whose first language is not English?

Answer:

Such a proof is not required. However, the application must be submitted in English and the interviews with the pre-selected candidates will be held in English. Thus, applicants will have to provide evidence of English language ability.

Question:

If my master’s degree is obtained in August 2020, am I eligible to apply?

Answer:

The master’s degree must be obtained prior to the starting date of the contract, ie September/October 2020. You will therefore be eligible to apply.

Answer:

You are free to apply for several projects. However, you will be asked to indicate your preference for two of the 15 proposals.

Question:

I am a non-EU citizen. Am I eligible to apply?

Answer:

Yes, the ESR positions are open to candidates of all nationalities.

Question:

I have spent more than 12 months in Italy over the last three years. I would like to apply for the ESR5 position, hosted at HU-ZAS in Berlin, Germany, but with a secondment at IIT in Ferrara, Italy. Will I be eligible for that position? Note that I haven’t stayed in Germany for more than 12 months in the past three years.

Answer:

Yes, you will be eligible. The no-more-than-12-months-in-the-country-over-the-last-three-years eligibility rule applies to the country of the main host institution (Germany, in the above example), but not to the country of the secondment host institution (Italy, in the above example).
